Presidential campaign: Stage Set

By Annie Shepherd for The Parisian Post.

Week ending 11 March 2012. Sarkozy still lags behind Hollande in the polls. Le Pen laments her lack of support from mayors to qualify and triggers a furore on Halal meat; Greece obtains EU,ECB, IMF support in a ‘credit event’ – known as a ‘technical default’; anti-nuclear demonstrations, while commemoration in Japan, one year on, of the Great East Japan Earthquake.

.

Sarko slides right, perhaps on his way out

‘too many foreigners here,’ he shouts

while Marine from the wings cries ‘why no vote from the Mayors?’

and ‘I tell you Halal meat is everywhere!’

Fillon steps in and falls into the trap

claims Halal’s outdated, Kosher’s off the map

Hollande head high runs in on hot air

could run out of steam before curtain fall.

Greece heaves a sigh of suspended despair

wins a credit event but the money’s not there

a default avoided, but default all the same

half the young unemployed: humility, shame

until next time round, how much further to fall?

Pro-nuclear France, anti-nuclear French

march in the streets, form a human chain.

While sad but serene the candles burn

in Fukushima, remembering,

fragile minds in a fragile land

Healing.
